Bought new tires today and finally have my comfort and peace of mind back. And yes I kept the tire pressure correct. Finally found a mechanic who could diagnose it and it's the tires! Bad tread wear on the front created a weird pattern that became incredibly loud. After two years (about 20,000 miles) I noticed a grinding noise coming from the front of my Durango - thought it was bad bearings, problems with the transfer case or something because it felt so grindy and loud - couldn't figure it out and it steadily got worse. Shortly after installing, the sidewall split on one tire. In the first 50 feet, they felt stiff and unresponsive. I knew driving out of the garage where I had them put on that I had made a mistake. These are the worst tires I have ever owned. Wear, mileage, noise, stiffness, sidewalls, etc. Snow and rain traction is horrible, truck wants to spin and slide enough to scare you.
